Margie Del Castillo

Director of Field and Advocacy

margie@latinainstitute.org

Margie Del Castillo serves as the Director of Field and Advocacy  for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, where she is responsible for building the base of activists willing to take action on issues, developing community leadership, building relationships with key local, state and national stakeholders, and advancing civic engagement strategies.

Margie has been an activist and an organizer for the past 6 years, working alongside communities of color around diverse social justice issues.  Most recently, Margie held the position of National Field Coordinator at the Alliance for Citizenship, a national campaign focused on winning common sense immigration reform.  She worked closely with the Deputy Campaign Manager for Field and coordinated the planning of local and national field events. She developed deep relationships with partner organizations in the states and contributed to the development of a national strategy for the field during congressional recesses and other key dates.

Margie started her career as a social worker, primarily working with Spanish speaking immigrants of color.  She helped her clients secure aid from public assistance programs like SNAP, Medicaid and TANF and also worked at a local domestic violence shelter, primarily focusing on teen violence prevention.  During the fall of 2012, after attending the NLIRH Southern regional LOLA training, she co-founded DC, Maryland, Virginia-Latinas Organizing for Leadership and Advocacy (DMV-LOLA), a Latina Advocacy Network promoting access to reproductive health services, immigration reform and community health in the DMV area.

Margie holds a Master of Arts degree in Women’s Studies from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  Previously, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double concentration in Psychology and Women’s Studies, from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.
